2015 major photographic safari....

Currently out and about on the 2015 major photography safari for the year. Started off in Melbourne for a few days. Some terrific photography there, more of the cityscape series. Currently in Reykjavik, Iceland about to drive around the island. Yesterday we spent sometime exploring the graffiti of the city, of which there is some
great urban street art.

New update on the City Series ...

New update on the City Series.  I think I'm safe in calling it a series now... seems to be where my eye is being drawn too.  Enjoy.

In the cool of the night

A new image from the architectually inspired gallery from the website.  Now its a little tricky that whilst the title is suggestive that the image was shot at night, well, it wasn't.  The cool tones and feeling remind me of a summers night on a full moon.  Enjoy.

Sinister blue

This time for a change I was photographing with Nicholas, yes we photograph a lot together, but end up with different images...funny.  This image caught my eye immediately.  The darkness, with shimmering dark and blue accents. Enjoy.

Rich Twisted

From a recent scout around the city, I came across this.  The strong geometrical lines, twisted panels and forms contrasted with rich colours. Enjoy.

I love a sunburnt building

This image is poetic and powerful in its colour and form. I am actually at a lost to describe it, but I was instantly drawn to take and create it.  Enjoy.

Some thing a little industrial: Industrial Form I

Out with my bestie, Nicholas, on a photowalk, and we stumbled into a hardware shop.  Full of all sorts of goodies, gizmos and gadgets.  What captured both our eyes where the repeating patterns of the things we wouldn't normally see.  Enjoy.

BlueBlack I

BlueBlack I

Solitary walk in Mandurah.  About an hours drive from Perth, on the coast, walking around the estuary.  I come across this magical blueblack liquid metal before me.  I spend about 30min just watching the patterns swirl, form, change, alternate, reform, dissolve and recreate.  I'm mesmerised. People walk past and wonder what I'm looking at.  Looking into the water, they fail to see it.  The missed beauty of this moment evolving in magical forms.

It takes me a while, but then I remember I am holding this huge camera.  I bring the camera tentatively to my eye, almost with a sense of despair that the forms will stop at any moment or for some technical reason they wont be able to be captured, these beautiful forms.  Fleeting unrepeatable moments.

Everything on manual including the focus, dial the exposure, twist the barrel, press the shutter in quick succession.  Now not brave enough to look until I get home.

Enjoy.

Woah, all the pretty colours....

A few months ago, Paul had a seminar down in Mandurah, South of Perth, and I decided to tag along for the conference and spend the time on a walk around the city seeing what I could find.  This series of images caught my eye for its bold colours and great form.  Minimal processing has been done, a bit of contrast, mid tone contrast and sharpening.  A real fav. Enjoy.

This one is from Paul: Lennon's Wall, Prague

A blog picture from Paul today.  This is a picture Paul took recently whilst in Prague.  It is of graffiti at a famous site, called Lennon's Wall.

Taken on our new Sony RX100, the full size image is awesome.  So far we have blown it up to A0 size, and going to try to take it to 2A0 (big!). Click on the picture to make it bigger.

Here is what Wikipedia says about the wall.

"The Lennon Wall or John Lennon Wall, is a wall in Prague, Czech Republic. Once a normal wall, since the 1980s it has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles songs.
In 1988, the wall was a source of irritation for the communist regime of Gustáv Husák. Young Czechs would write grievances on the wall and in a report of the time this led to a clash between hundreds of students and security police on the nearby Charles Bridge. The movement these students followed was described ironically as "Lennonism" and Czech authorities described these people variously as alcoholics, mentally deranged, sociopathic, and agents of Western capitalism.
The wall continuously undergoes change and the original portrait of Lennon is long lost under layers of new paint. Even when the wall was repainted by some authorities, on the second day it was again full of poems and flowers. Today, the wall represents a symbol of youth ideals such as love and peace.
The wall is owned by the Knights of Malta, who allowed the graffiti to continue on the wall, and is located at Velkopřevorské náměstí (Grand Priory Square), Malá Strana." Wikipedia, 2013

Urban dreaming VII: Tie me up....

As soon as I saw this wall I knew I need to photograph it for this series.  Though the locals who where near by when I was photographing it were someone bemused by my attention and focus, and wondering why was a bloke with a big camera taking a picture of our cruddy wall.  Well cause it looks pretty to me.  I love the texture, the contrast and colour... Enjoy.

Urban dreaming VI: Its not my job...

I came across this image, whilst walking around with my bestie Nicholas.  It was next to a new section of road in which it a lane marking paint was abruptly stopped where a plastic bag was on the bitumen.  Too funny.  Its not my job.  Enjoy.

Urban dreaming V: down and forgotten

OK, this one keeps reminding my of what the world would look like during the zombie apocalypse, derelict and ruined.  Must stop watching Walking Dead! and reading World War Z.  LOL.  This image I like because it has character, texture and colour.... Enjoy.

Urban dreaming III: Sign's of our times

Time for an update.... This one is from the urban dreaming series.  What started out as a standard, nondescript sign, has been honed and crafted over time into something quiet beautiful. Awesome patina, colour and form. Enjoy.

Urban Photowalk I

Time for a bit of a series.  This group of images over the next few weeks is from a series called "Urban Walk".  I predominately get drawn to old, distressed finishes found in the middle of urban modern cities.  I hope you enjoy the series.  Enjoy.

Does it grate on you?

Something from the recent urban series. I really liked this for a couple of reasons.  Firstly the textures, the textured metal work, the slime dark water, and the leaves.  Next was the contrast between the grey of the concrete and the metal, with the organic forms of the water and leaves.  Enjoy.

The Dark Arts with Nicholas

I am always surprised by what I see when out on a photowalk.  Nicholas and I were out for a quickie (quick photowalk) and nattering away, when I spotted this.  I loved it immediately and could see it with deep dark colours.  A few tweeks when back home processing it, and its full Dark Arts reveals itself.  Enjoy.
