West End Deli for dinner

Last night we went out for dinner with our mates Peter, Penny, Liz, and Paul.  Good food, great service, and fantastic atmosphere. Of course, I was there with a camera... this time Paul's camera, and took this one.  Enjoy.

Photowalk scouting V

Walking through the city, and coming across the new Arena, it was hard not to be taken by this new contemporary construction of The Arena.  However I wasn't ... whilst its newly finished facade is bold, blue, and interesting, I was drawn by some reflection in the windows of a building across the rail tracks in Northbridge.  Again, I'm a sucker for a reflection, its almost like a hidden truth, a partial glimpse of something... (oh dear, getting all deep!).  The colour and forms caught my eye. Enjoy!

Photowalk scouting IV

Out and about on the walk, I would have to say one of my favourite areas at the moment is Brookfield Place in the city.  The mixture of architecture and forms is awesome for things to see and shoot.  As well there are heaps of people stairs, interesting pubs, restaurants, and chocolate shop!  One of the things I like to shoot is reflections.  I know... its a bit odd, anyhow, see if you like this one.

Analogue dreams

Sorting (analogue) photos, the old (analogue) way. Sorting photos (real ones) the old fashion way so they can be scanned!

Rixy

This is an image of Rixy, on the wire ladder.  That ladder was bloody tricky to work with, but Rixy nailed it.  Shot during the day, with Rixy on one boat, me on another (trying not to fall in).  I think I have some bts shots from Natalie Branco. Natalie assisted me for this shoot, and in fact did a post on her blog of the experience.  I love the mystery, the location, and the boys looked great.  Enjoy.

Photowalk scouting II

I wanna thrown you up against the wall and.... oh, hello viewers.  Welcome back.  Today we have one of my favourite things to shoot, next to people, flowers and other abstract forms, yes, its old crumbly textured walls.  This one was spied out the corner of my eye, down a lane-way off Hay St.  I was immediately taken by the colour and texture. Heavily marked, dense colour, bits falling off, and heavily weathered.  Ahh, perfect.  I think this image is awesome by itself and I may use it as a texture element in other pieces.  Yes, I know it is weird to be excited by a wall... but there you go. Part of the rich tapestry of life.  Enjoy.

Photowalk scouting I

This next series of images was taken from a scouting walk I was doing to an upcoming photowalk planned for January 2013.  With me on the walk was Morgan, who also had his camera with him, though I've yet to see his images (hint, hint).

First image is from the centre of the city, almost opposite the Apple Store, its the Rydges Hotel on Hay Street.  Its iconic front façade is striking and bold, and the spring sunlight just set it off really well.  Rather than the classic front on  shot, I decided to got with framing it on an angle to get a bit of interest across the image. Enjoy.

Cal by the sea wall

So sometimes people ask me about the exotic and far flung location I go to do my portraits.  Well I thought I would give you a little behind the scenes look.

The location... oh, its a ripper!

The location... one of the tunnels!  Its actually a flow drain between the sea wall and the jetty opposite.  The gentlemen in the yellow t-shirt is Paul Renfree, my contact/coordinator/lighting and motivator for the shoots I did with the Australian Clearance Dive Team 4.  Paul is a great bloke, but I was a little uncertain about this location.

The result, well, I think I did a pretty good job.  What do you think?

Say g'day to Cal.

Top blue

Another post so quick after the last one... crazy!  This one is for William, who is a terrific landscape photographer who is currently using the same type of camera this one was taken with.  The Hasselblad H4D, with 120mm macro lens.  I still haven't processed the images I shot with this camera the last time I used it... but here is a quickly processed shot.  Enjoy.

Skater dudes in three segments

Big of a change today from some of the new Bali series.  This one was taken before we went up to Bali, in fact it was some rainy, cloudy day in downtown Perth.  I was caught but the sequence of these guys zooming back and forth between the columns and managed to capture a shot with them in each archway.

Enjoy.

Green goodness...

This shot was taken deep in the Indonesian rain-forrest.  After many days travel and hours trekking we came upon an idealic watering hole, a place of peace and solitude.  Food and drink was in copious amounts around us, and rare and exotic species from all across the globe were in our vicinity. An idealic place for a shot*.  I was taken by the fig tree and how the fruits were on the stem and branches of the tree.  The contrast between the green and grey is devine.  Enjoy!

* ok, so it may have also been pool-side at the Maya Resort, down by the river, a long walk from breakfast, where a few other peeps were hanging out as well.  Still a nice tree.

Kangaroo paw

This one I debated about putting up.  I like it a lot, but it is very bold and strong.  Would look good as a very large piece I think.

Kangaroo paw's (common name of two genra of the Haemodoraceae family) are native to the South West of Western Australia.  The variety amongst the flowers is truly remarkable.  For those who haven't seen them before check out this Google Image Search page .  Of course they aren't as pretty as the image below.

Enjoy.

Lush anticipation

Well I usually don't put up two images in one day, however today is an exception.  This image is a from the spring photowalk series of native spring flowers.  Strong contrasting colour and luxuriant forms with a surprise that is about to spring forth. I thought this was a nice contrast to the earlier monotone image.  Enjoy.
